I thought it was a good idea to rotate every player to every position when I first started coaching soccer. In hindsight, I don't think that is necessarily best and I don't think your are cheating a player if they don't get to play every position.
They iron the patches on Streamers, a small piece of cloth about 2 inches wide and 12 inches long, that the kids attach to their backpacks. Each streamer is noticeably unique and makes it easy to identify their backpacks.
